Cassie + Will [Colonial Williamsburg, Virginia] Engagement Session

Although it was one of the coldest days of the month, we had a super fun time with Cassie and Will during their Colonial Williamsburg engagement session. Add in a precious little dachshund named Bourbon, and we were basically swooning our way throughout this chilly down home, scarf sporting, plaid wearing winter session!
And, huge bonus: We uncovered some gorgeous new haunts to use for future sessions. Win win!

Cassie and Will, thanks so much for giving us a chance to get to know you and capture your relationship. We wish you the very best!!!

George & Emily [Northern Virginia Wedding]

When Emily contacted us a few months ago, asking us to shoot her [Northern Virginia, mountaintop, barn and cows and hay bales and sunlight and— you get the idea] wedding, our answer was to (privately) jump up and down and do some girly squealing. Then, of course, we calmly replied in a professional manner, “We may be able to make that work.”

Fast forward to Emily and George’s beautiful, special… RAINY… day. Very rainy. Torrential downpour rainy. We woke up the morning of, with prayers on our lips for Emily’s sanity, and for the safety of our camera equipment.
After a few checks of the weather- okay, okay, more like once every three minutes- we arrived at the very soggy grounded, but dry skied venue.

There is something to be said for a bride who knows how to roll with the punches and greet what feels like catastrophe with a smile. There is also something to be said for the gloomy, dramatic skies and smoky, rain soaked foot hills of Northern Virginia. Both are beautiful to behold and a joy to work with.

Emily and George, thank you for allowing us to capture every moment of your lovely day. As we like to tell all of our couples: "It doesn't matter what goes wrong today -- the end result is that you will be married. And that's what matters." Even if Uncle Ernie loses his toupee that everyone KNOWS is a toupee but refuses to acknowledge, right in the middle of pictures; or your cousin Jessica shows up wearing white,  just because, well, you know, she's THAT cousin; or the cake leans sideways and the flowers wilt.... The fact is, by the end of the day, you'll be husband and wife. Everything else is a non-issue, even the threat of pouring rain and wet grass that leaves stains on a white dress.

So congratulations, you two! You did it!!! And that is the most beautiful part of your utterly beautiful wedding!

Luke & Ashley (Ft. Monroe, Virginia) Engagement Session

There aren't many people we'd get up in the dark of night for. But for our couples, we'd do just about anything, save maybe climb Mt. Everest (but hey, if you're out there, and you want to get married there, we're only an email away!). So when one of our brides, Ashley, asked if there was any way we could move her engagement session time to dawn- as in, sunrising, birds still sleeping, moon still shining dawn- of course we said YES!

Of course the first words out of her fiance, Luke's, mouth were, "I'm sorry we made you wake up so early!" But these gorgeous silhouettes, lovely warm, diffused light, and lower humidity conditions were well worth the early alarm clocks.

Ashley and Luke, we had a blast hanging out with you at 0 Dark Thirty, and we can't wait to see again for your big day!
